This self-assessment schizophrenia test is designed for the screening of Schizophrenia; this schizophrenia test is based on the established criteria being used by mental health professionals. This schizophrenia test cannot be used by professionals for the purpose of diagnosis. The permanent diagnosis can only be given by an experienced psychologist or psychiatrist.

What is Schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is a condition of disturbed reality contact. The person loses control over their environment. Schizophrenia is a lifelong disorder and treatment takes time, but with early treatment, the severity can be controlled to improve the quality of life.

Furthermore, the symptoms extend to the behavioural symptoms as well and can be shown in the unusual posturing, silliness, agitation, as well as resistance to commands or excessive motor activity.

Their speech can get disturbed as well and there are times when people start noticing that the conversations are no more fluent and they jump from one context to the next that the other person is unable to grasp the content. Along with that their expression of emotions and understanding the feelings of another person also gets disturbed. They become socially withdrawn.

There are negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia. The positive symptoms include: unrealistic perceptions or actions and have the altered reality. The negative symptoms are related to the unusual mental functioning related to the emotions, feelings, perception and behaviour of the person.

There are studies done on the number of incidents and approximately 0.3% -0.7% were reported in the US. Males usually have a longer duration of negative symptoms.

There are chances of suicide as the condition matures and the intensity of symptoms increases. The figures given in researches quote that 5%-6% of people with schizophrenia die as a result of suicide and more than 20% attempt suicide anytime in their lives.

There have been a lot of researches done on the topic of causes of schizophrenia, and the answer is still unknown. There are a number of factors which impact the development of the condition. These include genetics, physical, psychological and environmental conditions.

This schizophrenia test was created on the basis of research findings and the criteria followed by professionals in the mental health field. This schizophrenia test is based on the multiple screening sessions of mental health professionals in the field. This schizophrenia test has significant reliability for different cultural backgrounds and ethnicity.

This schizophrenia test is easy to self-administer and asks simple questions with four answer choices to choose from, and it takes 2-3 minutes to complete. The results will be given immediately after screening.

This schizophrenia test will screen any psychotic tendencies and loss of touch with reality and will help in understanding the need to seek psychological help. 

The psychological help will only be recommended when your scores lie on the levels of increased severity, and you need professional help.

There are scenarios people go through in their lives when they are experiencing schizophrenia, please read the following question items carefully and respond honestly to get the accurate results regarding the presence of schizophrenia. Select the option considering your condition for the last 6 months.

1. I believe that others are controlling me, or I have powers others don’t have or I feel that someone is following me, or other are making fun of me

 

2. I see or hear things which in reality do not exist

 

3. People report that they are unable to understand what I am saying, or I just jump from one topic to another quickly

 

4. My body gets stiff or stuck at certain position and stays there for a while

 

5. I am unable to express and understand facial expression accompanying emotions

 

6. My family, work, or social life is disturbed

 

7. I have not been diagnosed with any other psychological condition e.g., schizoaffective disorder, depressive or bipolar disorder with psychotic features

 

8. My symptoms are not because of any drug or medication
