Sample resignation letter new opportunity

A sample resignation letter due to a new opportunity includes paragraphs like the following (indeed.com):

“I am writing to inform you that I have accepted a position at a company that I feel is a better fit for my career moving forward. Please accept this note as my formal resignation from ABC company. My last day will be two weeks from today, [insert last day of work].

While I will be moving on to a new position, I am deeply grateful for the opportunities to grow and learn during my time here.”

Here is the resignation letter format you can follow when writing your letter:

  • Date: this will be the date you are delivering the letter on.
  • Address line (i.e. “Dear Mr/Ms…”).
  • Resignation statement. This should clearly state your intention to leave.
  • Your last day of employment (considering the notice period, i.e. two weeks’ notice).
  • Statement of gratitude. Thank your employer for the opportunity to work for them and if you are willing, offer to help through the transition period.
  • Ask any questions you may have or the next steps.
  • Closing statement and signature. You can use a statement like “Best Regards” or “sincerely”.

As an employee leaving an employer you are not obliged to provide a specific reason why you are resigning but if you would like to, you can use “personal reasons”, “career change” or “better job opportunity” without giving too many details.

Just keep your letter short and straight to the point while remaining polite and professional.

Recently, I received a new job offer as a {New Position} at {Company Name}. After careful consideration, I have decided to accept this new job opportunity and will be commencing work with them soon. As you know, change is vital for progress, I believe that this new job will help me achieve my future goals in graphic designing. Working for {Your Company}, for the past {years} has been a wonderful experience. I will be completing my ongoing project of designing the logo for XYZ Company before my departure. Also, I am willing to help with the training of my replacement before I leave. “I am sorry to inform you that circumstances dictate I must resign from my position as Division Manager. I prefer to leave at the end of this week, if that is convenient. If not, I will gladly comply with the company’s request to give two weeks’ termination notice.

Each year my financial obligations have increased; unfortunately, my salary here has not been able to keep up with these demands. As a result, I have been forced to reconsider my employment here and have concluded that it would be best for me to seek employment with a company better equipped to meet my financial requirements. Despite this, it is with mixed emotions that I have accepted a position elsewhere that carries a higher salary with possibilities for future advancement,

Please accept my thanks for the opportunity to work with you. The guidance you have given me has proved invaluable and has prepared me well for my new position. I have enjoyed the challenges presented here at Doe’s, and I sincerely hope that I have returned adequate service for all the benefits that I have received.

I would be happy to help you find and train a suitable replacement. Because my projects are current and because I have left detailed instructions illustrating how to perform my job duties on my desk, my successor should have little difficulty assuming my responsibilities. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help make this a smooth transition.”

I regret to inform you that I am resigning from my position here as a sales consultant. I would like to personally thank you for the opportunity you provided me to work alongside you at such a great company. I have learned many new skills here and wish you and the team all the best for the future.

I want to be completely honest and frank about why I am leaving the company. I have been offered an opportunity at a different company that is better aligned with my career goals. The training and education on offer at the new company will provide me with the tools I will need to keep growing as a sales consultant, with the goal to eventually move into a management position.

This was not an easy decision for me to come to, however, it is an opportunity I can not overlook.

I do not intend to inconvenience you with this news, and I hope you will accept my most sincere apologies for making the 25th of July my final day here. Thanks again for all you have done for me.
