Sample resignation letter Ireland

A sample resignation letter Ireland could start by saying something like (jobs365.ie):

“Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name: I am writing to give my resignation from Company Name, effective one month from today [insert date]. I have enjoyed working with you over these past [insert number of years] and would like to thank you for the opportunities, both professional and personal, you have provided me during my time.”

Moreover, they indicate how for most companies the standard notice period is one month or four weeks, depending on the company policies differing from the UK where the standard notice period is considered to be two weeks but we will talk about it more in-depth next.

A formal resignation letter should be brief, simple, and straight to the point.

The first line of your letter should state your intention to leave your job and the date that would be your last day of work.

In the following paragraph, you could thank your employer in the transition and end with a positive note, offering your help during the transition period.

How much notice do I need to give my employer?

You could leave immediately without leaving notice but it can negatively impact your future job search since they may not give you a good recommendation letter.

However, some employers have included in their contract that an employee who leaves without due notice could breach your contract, which can carry legal implications.

According to jobs.ie, in Ireland, you don’t need to provide notice if you have worked for the company for less than 13 weeks but you need to provide notice if you have worked for them more than 13 weeks but less than 2 years.

Moreover, if your employment tenure is 2 to 5 years, a 2-week notice may be necessary and if you have worked for them for 5-10 years, you may need to give 4 week’s notice.

For employees whose tenure is between 10 to 15 years, a 6-week notice may be required and if you have worked even more than 15+ years, you may need to give an 8+ week notice.

So how do you know this?

Just check with your HR department or your employment agreement to see if there is specific information about the notice period when you have decided to quit.

This letter is an official notice of my intention to leave the position of Assistant Manager at Lynch’s Retail on September 15, 2019.

I have received an offer to work at a new retail store, and after carefully considering my options, I have elected to take the role.
