Sample resignation letter going back home (7)

In this guide, we will see Sample resignation letters when you are thinking about going back home for many different reasons.

In addition, there are some examples you can use to write your own letter if you don’t want to use any of the existing examples.

Sample resignation letter going back home

A sample resignation letter going back home could be useful if after your maternity leave you are planning to go back to your home town to live with or closer to your family, due to pregnancy, family reasons, school, relocating, found a new job or an internship back home, etc.

Moreover, you could actually be thinking of labeling it under “personal reasons” instead of letting your employer know you are “going back home”.

Just as you probably had to write a cover letter to get hired so now it is important to write a formal resignation letter to avoid burning bridges.

Make sure to check your contract to see if there is a period notice specified, but usually it is 2 weeks.

However, you may need to submit an immediate resignation because you need to attend to an urgent matter so make sure you let your employer know as soon as possible.

Step-by-step

The first step would be to state clearly your intention to leave the company. Include your job title and give an effective date.

Here is an example from writeexpress.com:

“Although I love my job here at Doe Corporation, present family circumstances force me to resign my position as Executive Secretary, effective on the last day of this month, May 31, 2019.”

Some example phrases include:

  • after considerable thought, I have decided to
  • although I enjoy my position as
  • although I have enjoyed my work at
  • am offering notice so that
  • am offering my resignation as
  • an earlier departure would be more convenient

The second step would be to include the reason why you are leaving if you feel comfortable enough letting your employer know since it is optional.

Here is an example of how you could go about doing this:

“I am moving back to California to care for my mother. Her health is now rapidly failing, and I want to be near her. Some people have suggested that I bring her here to live with me, but since I left home I have wanted to move back to the San Francisco area and live in the old house where I grew up.”

The third step would be to thank your employer for the opportunity, here is are a few examples from writeexpress.com:

  • I want to thank you for all the help you have given me during the past few years. I felt very unsure of myself when I started here five years ago, but under your guidance and supervision, I have developed confidence and skill.
  • I appreciate the time you spent with me to make sure that I did my job properly.
  • The most enjoyable aspect of my job is the relationships I have developed here.

The fourth step could be to ask for a letter of recommendation or ask any questions you may have, offer any assistance in the transition process, and then you can close your letter with “best wishes” and sign it.

Sales Director

Atlantic Co.

123 Business Rd.

Business City, NY 54321

Dear Mr. Lee:

I am writing to inform you that I will be leaving Atlantic Co. in one month. Although I have so enjoyed working with you and working for the company, personal reasons necessitate that I vacate my position and focus on improving my situation at home.

My final day will be July 1st. Despite having to leave, I deeply appreciate the opportunities you’ve provided me with during my time as an Online Sales Manager. I am very grateful for all of your assistance along the way.

I will do whatever necessary to ensure a smooth transition after I move on. I have several team members in mind who I believe would be strong candidates for promotion to my position, or I would be happy to assist with the process of finding an external replacement. Please do not hesitate to be in touch about what I can do to help.

Once again, thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of Atlantic Co. I do hope that we can stay in touch as business colleagues, and I look forward to working with you again in the future should the opportunity present itself. Many thanks for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Sample 5

Example from writeexpress.com:

“I regretfully submitted my resignation from my position as personnel director, effective two weeks from today. Although I love my job, my first priority is my family, and I have decided to stay home with my newborn child. When I first learned that I was pregnant, the resignation was the last thing on my mind. But, now that she is born, I find I lack the courage to leave her in the care of a stranger.

Your confidence in my abilities and genuine concern for my professional growth make this decision especially difficult. I will be forever grateful for the invaluable expertise I acquired while under your guidance. Also, the friendships I have developed here have helped make my years with the company successful and productive. My co-workers have been among the finest people I have ever known.

I highly regard your offer to reinstate me to my former position once I decide to reenter the job market; indeed, I can think of no company for which I would rather work.”

Sample 6

Example from writeexpress.com:

“I regret to inform you that I am resigning as an editor on January 15, 2019. These past eight months have been incredibly difficult as Jane and I have decided to end our marriage. I will have custody of the children and I cannot juggle the demands of this job and of my children full-time. I also need to be there for them to help them copewith the emotional difficulties they face.

Thank you for the terrific experience of being an editor for this paper. It’s been educational, enraging, entertaining, etc. Perhaps my mastery of alliteration will help me in finding a part-time position. More likely, a strong recommendation from Doe would be of more help. Would you mind writing me a letter of recommendation? Should any part-time editorial or writing positions become available, I would greatly appreciate bing considered for the job. Again, thank you for everything.”
