In this guide, we will see some samples of resignation letters from a job and a few tips on what to include in your letter.
Sample resignation letter from job
A sample resignation letter from a job simply is a letter stating your formal intention to leave or quit your job.
This might be your first job and you need a job change or you have received a new job opportunity after 30-year employment, you have a low salary that doesn’t meet your financial needs, etc.
Whatever the reason might be, you may think it is important to leave on a positive note.
Moreover, you may have discussed with your boss your intention to leave and when, hopefully considering your employer’s notice period.
Even if you are leaving due to personal reasons, you could opt by writing a resignation letter that doesn’t actually disclose your reason for leaving but if you do, make sure you limit your reason to 1-2 sentences.
Here is the basic format and order you can follow when writing your letter:
- During the first sentence clearly state your intention to leave and your current job role.
- Include the last day you will work for your employer considering the notice period. For example, 1 month or even the standard 2 weeks’ notice (this will depend on your contract).
- Thank your employer for the opportunity and even highlight something you learned during the time you were employed.
- When possible, offer to assist in the transition period. For example, training your replacement.
- Include your personal information in case someone needs to get in touch with you for your HR department.

Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as Account Executive with Marketing Media. My last day will be Thursday, March 2.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to work in this position for the past six years. I’ve greatly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunities I’ve had to grow our sales team and pipeline, be a part of creating a great product, and work with my fellow colleagues, and I’ve learned so much about marketing strategy and the digital media space, which I will certainly take with me throughout my career.
I’ll do everything possible to wrap up my duties and train other team members over the next two weeks. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help during this transition.
I wish the company continued success, and I hope to stay in touch in the future.

I received an offer to serve as a senior accountant of a Fortune 500 company, and after careful consideration, I realize that this opportunity is too exciting for me to decline.
