Reasons to quit night shift (Samples)
In this brief blog post, we will provide examples of reasons to quit night shift.
Reasons to quit night shift
There are many reasons to quit night shift, and they are all valid reasons.
For researchers and scientists, working overnight or as the night shift could potentially have negative repercussions on your overall health.
According to the University of Colorado at Boulder, it is believed that eating by night and sleeping by day can alter more than 100 key proteins in your blood, including the ones that influence sugar, your immune system, and metabolism.
In addition, this could lead to being more prone to developing diabetes, obesity and certain types of cancer.
However, for most night shift workers, there is a monetary reason as to why they stay in the night shift since it is paid at a higher hourly rate.
According to Nicole Lyn Pesce from Market Watch “About 15 million Americans work full time on evening shifts (until 11 p.m. or so), the night shift (often 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.), rotating shifts (taking turns covering continuous 24-hour shifts, like in hospitals, running two or three shifts per day), or other irregular schedules.
Most are blue-collar workers like police officers and firefighters, nurses, bartenders and food servers, manufacturing plant employees and transportation workers.
And toiling overnight takes its toll on them.”
The World Health Organization back in 2007, classified night shift work as a “probable carcinogen” since it is known to interrupt the body’s circadian rhythm which is believed to signal the cells in our bodies to produce certain hormones.
In addition, it is said to be associated with bad habits such as smoking or eating junk food but it can also represent higher stress levels, anxiety, and depression.
Therefore, if you have started to feel depressed, anxious, gaining weight, having migraines, lack of sleep or sleep disorders, stress, digestive problems, among others, then you do not need any more reasons to think about quitting the night shift.
Even though quitting seems like the only way, it is recommended first to talk to your boss and see if they agree to make changes to your actual schedule, if not, then here are some samples on resignation letters for some of the reasons to quit night shift.
Sample 1 reasons to quit night shift (Stress)
“Hanson Reginald
Manager, Post Upton Corporation
100 Broadway Lane
Dear. Mr. Reginald,
This letter is to inform you that I will be resigning my position from Post Upton Corporation immediately due to stress. Over the past several months, I have felt my health decline rapidly and I finally sought out a medical opinion. After a battery of tests, my doctor has determined that my stress is significant enough that I must be pulled out of work and allowed to rest.
I am very saddened by this as I enjoyed my job, the people I worked with and the company I worked for. You and the management staff had made my tasks enjoyable, for the most part. Please understand that this is a general sort of stress that is not attributed specifically to my job. For the company’s education and files, I have included a copy of a note from my doctor regarding my condition.
If you need my input on certain daily tasks, please feel free to call me at home. But I would ask that you limit the calls to allow me to rest. You can reach me at 555-322-3422 or email me at bgard@email.com. Please pass along my best wishes and thoughts to everyone at the company.
Sincerely Yours,
Brenda Gard”
