PTSD triggers could be internal or external.

Internal triggers include sensations (sight, sound, smell etcetera) in association with the trauma, places or people that remind the individual about the trauma,  hospital, funerals or deaths and relationship pressure etcetera.

Internal triggers of PTSD include physical discomforts (sleep deprivation, sexual frustration etcetera), bodily sensations associated with the traumatic event (such as old wounds or scars), intense emotions and so forth.

PTSD triggers must not be avoided.

When an individual avoids PTSD triggers, he successfully calms himself for the time being but fails to get rid of their uncomfortable feelings permanently.

Acceptance helps an individual to accept the traumatic event and face the triggers bravely to become immune to their negative effects.

If they still feel helpless and are unable to control their emotions, they can go for ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy).

Positive affirmations such as “I am safe”, “These are just triggers and can not harm me” etcetera can help an individual deal with their triggers efficiently.
