This can be a common and very typical symptom of much of the mental health condition such as anxiety, depression and other associated mental health illnesses. At such times, one doesn’t need to feel low and fed up with himself. Moreover, it is important not to blame oneself for failure. 

It is very apparent and clear to all that there is no one cure that solves all the complicated and diverse problems, there is no one-size-fits-all remedy for all the problems. There are certain treatments or strategies that work for a group of a person while there are also others who are not benefited by the help. Thus, it is important to seek help from others at the same time, it might also make us feel worse since it doesn’t produce the same result and remedy for us like them. 

In such cases, it is important and needed to keep yourself open to all kinds of assistance and help so that there will be one that fits you and solve your problem.

Why does nothing help?

While certain treatments and strategies work for a group of people, it will not always produce the same result for all. And this can be due to different barriers to our recovery and getting better.

The belief that self-help doesn’t work on me

For serious mental health concerns and issues, simply following self-care and hygiene routine won’t help in solving the problem. It is important to supplement or assist such routine with professional help and treatments. 

It is also the belief that nothing works that tends to worsen the problem and increases the severity of the problem rather than ramification of the problem.

Professional help doesn’t work and I’ve tried

There are cases when the mental health professional or general physician fails to comprehend the problem in hand and their treatment fails to produce the desired effect in the person. 

This failure and inability to understand the problem of clients results in feeling like nothing helps and there is no cure for their underlying problems. 

And when this occurs, it is best not to continue with the same professional or therapy rather it is better to shift to a new professional and reach out to other mental health professionals. 

I am tired of trying and want to give up

When the person feels like there is no improvement, recovery and progress, they are overburden by the thought that nothing helps. Help is always available when the individual is disturbed by such thoughts, they can simply reach out to their family and friends for moral support.

It’s best to have someone around your corner to encourage and motivate you and push you ahead against all odds and difficulties. To have a strong and constant support system in all forms on board can keep you motivated and positive.

Because of these reasons, people tend to feel like there is nothing that helps and there is no cure. It feels like there is nothing that works despite the coping skills and thought patterns. 

The feeling that nothing helps and seems like working is a serious thought individual diagnosed with mental illnesses goes through. For them, every other day is a battle against these thoughts and they are drained out by the negativity. 

When such thoughts get worse and severe, they feel worthless, their life as pointless and there is very less satisfaction derived from their existence.

When the person feels that there is nothing that helps them to get better and alleviate the symptoms of mental health and illnesses. There are some methods one can follow to get rid of it. 

And in such cases, it is always best to find the best way out and the right approach. At times, despite following all treatments and therapy, there is no significant improvement in themselves and there is no inner peace derived from these treatments. 

Finding the right approach with the right people

When it feels like there is nothing that seems to be working and helping the person for a way out, it is always best to find the right therapist or a doctor gets better. 

Developing a firm and strong therapeutic relationship is halfway done for the treatment purpose thus, finding a professional who could understand one’s inner feeling and offers help accordingly can help get rid of the problem associated with mental illnesses. 

Hunting for someone with whom one can relate in terms of sexuality, culture and other backgrounds offers the sense of comfort and eases the emotional ventilation.

Following the right treatment 

There is no particular cure for all kinds of problems and there is nothing that works the same for all individuals. It varies based on individual circumstances and their functioning.

It is best to fight the symptoms and difficulty with specific treatment customized based on an individual’s circumstance.

Thus, to discuss with a psychologist and then deciding on the treatment process that fits the best with the individual case is the best way to get over the feeling that nothing helps. Thus it is best to fight the symptom with a customized tool or treatment.

Simply following self-help strategies alone will not help for the treatment of symptoms, rather an integration of both therapy and medication

Giving it time

There is no immediate result associated with medication and therapy. Many medications take time to work and process. And therapy usually takes 8-20 sessions and sometimes longer than that in severe cases. Thus, it is ideal to give times when so as to avoid the feeling that nothing is working on them. 

However, when the treatment and medications are not working even after some time, it is better to opt for different treatment with a second opinion.

Accepting and embracing change

Another way of getting over the feeling of nothing helping out, it is important to be open to all kinds of fixations, be it thoughts, relation and feeling. Embracing and welcoming novelty and giving oneself the time for change can help them awaken, open up and be mindful.

Considering a situation or problem from a different angle can solve the problem of fixing a particular thought process of things, not helping out and treating them.

To treat and get rid of the feeling, one needs to feed their mind and heart with things they enjoy doing. Doing so will bring in more positivity and help the individual to better cope up with these feelings.

These are some of the ways to cope up and debunk the belief that nothing seems to be working. One can always reach out for help when a particular treatment doesn’t seem to be therapeutic and help them get rid of the negativity.
