How to be free (Guide)

In this brief guide, we will cover what means to be free and how to be free.

How to be free?

You may find yourself asking “how to be free” and What do I need to be truly free in life? Well, there is no right or wrong answer to this question because it depends on what you understand of the concept of being free. Perhaps you may feel as if you are in your own prison, somewhat trying to escape from it but without any luck and fed up with life as a whole.

For you to be truly free in life you need to find inner peace and satisfaction on what you are doing and why you are doing it. Sometimes we are still prisoners from our past, our mistakes and we have been holding to it for so long that we are not sure how to let go.

Let go of the past. Let go of your failures. Let them float away as you move forward. (There is an activity on the HFNE app to help you with this)

Sure, you might remember things that didn’t go your way. Learn from them, just don’t dwell on them, on the “what ifs” and what-could-have-been because it will not happen. Let it all go, because that kind of mindset will only hold you back in your attempt to be free. You have the opportunity to live your life to the fullest, so grab it and hold on tight.

Once you find your purpose or start creating yourself as the person you desire to be, not what others expect you to be. Be honest and truthful with yourself, because you can lie to everyone else but in the end, you can’t lie to yourself. Why wait until tomorrow, next week or someday? Find out who you really are inside and release your true purpose. Then run with it and learn to accept and love yourself as you are.

We all have one life to live, one chance to reach our potential. Sometimes we’ve held our dreams down for so long, we don’t even realize our own potential anymore and where it can take us.

Look for opportunities and ways to succeed instead of thinking about the obstacles and problems. Get serious about your aspirations. Set aside some time to grow your dreams, and stretch what lies within you. No more waiting, no more standing around. Work hard and make it happen.

What is personal freedom?

Some say personal freedom means living your life as you are, to do what you want and to spend time with the people you love.

For many people, personal freedom is just a dream, something we like to fantasies about and what gives us hope to carry on with our lives. We are full of obligations and we have to work (now or in the near future) to sustain ourselves, that is what grown-ups do right?

But, what if being free was not just a dream or something we tell ourselves as “it would be nice if… so I can be free”. We live disappointed because we are not living our lives the way we want or we are supposed to but we don’t actually try to make any changes because we are too afraid of what could happen “if” we do. It is the uncertainty that kills us and getting out of our comfort zone terrifies us.

Well, everything comes with a price and opportunities won’t fall from the sky for those who just sit and wait. You need to get out, take risks and grab those opportunities. Yes, there is a chance we might get hurt but it is only a normal thing in life to learn from our mistakes and to be a better version of ourselves every day.

This is why there are no wrong or right answers when finding freedom and what makes you happy, it is a question that can have many answers. But, the only answer that matters is yours. What you decide to do and how it will make the difference. We are not saying that if you really don’t like your job you should just leave, instead we are telling you, to find something you do love and would like to do.

Find your purpose and meaning. This will, in the end, let you be free and who you are.

Why are we not entirely free?

Well, fear is a very powerful emotion that prevents us from doing things because we don’t know if we can anticipate the outcome or if we are going to like it. Sometimes we go through life living under the same routine and doing the same things but we are not willing to take risks or make changes because we are too afraid.

We keep looking outside our window and wonder why things are just the same, why we keep looking at the same boring scenery. Well, the answer is simple, because we don’t have a plan, if we had one then things would be completely different. We wouldn’t have to worry about the outcome because we would have thought already about all the possible outcomes and how to solve problems that may arise.

Start with small things, small changes and then go big and dream big!

What makes you truly free and happy?

We like to fantasize about how our life would be if we were rich or famous or powerful or if you could live someone else’s life. But think about it for a moment, is that really going to make you happy? Once you are a millionaire, is it enough for you? Probably not.

We think once we get those things we will be truly free and happy but suddenly we realize that is not the case. So what is it that makes us feel free and happy? What most of us want is to be ourselves, to have peace of mind and being independent. The most valuable things in life are the ones we work for, labor for and earn with our sweat. That makes us feel happy and proud.

Find your purpose in life, who you are and who you’d like to become. Ask yourself “Why am I here?”, “What do I want out of life”, “What am I really good at?”.

Also, if you wake up every morning feeling there is something missing then ask yourself “Why am I doing what I am doing?”, “What is the purpose?”, “Am I truly happy?” If you still feel as something is missing then start making a plan or make some changes to your actual way of living. Don’t leave it for tomorrow, start acting today.

Why is this blog about “how to be free” important?

You may have decided already you need to search for ways to be truly free and happy but are not really sure how to do it. It is not an easy formula and there is no manual that can tell you exactly how to be free, you actually have to decide to be free.

Most of us go through our lives managing and coping with what we have gotten so far and desperately attempt not to lose it, otherwise, we will feel lost and vulnerable. Our mind is the first impediment to being truly free and happy. It is always telling us not to do something because something might go wrong, but that’s the thing, if it does then we just start over and learn from our mistakes but at least we tried and know now it was not the way to go so we can search for other ways.

No one can tell you how to live your life except yourself. Try new things, see new places, find yourself, learn as much as you can. This can bring you tremendous joy, happiness and then you can decide if you feel truly free.
