What are Move Minutes and Heart Points?
As we have discussed, Google Fit approaches fitness a bit different than other fitness apps. There are still common metrics you will find in any other app such as heart rate and step count but Google Fit combines your activity metrics to make them mean something. For example, you may see that you took 20 minutes walking to the bus station, but what does this mean? Does this benefit you somehow?
Well, Google worked with the American Heart Association to create two goals based on the Heart Association’s recommendations, resulting in Move Minutes and Heart Points.
- Move minutes is an alternative way to say ‘Active Time’, meaning you ear Move Minutes for every time you do a physical activity, including walking, running and swimming.
- Heart Points are earned when you are performing an activity that has a higher pace. You will earn one Heart Point for every minute of moderately intense exercise, like from a swift walk. You will also have the opportunity to earn double points if you are taking part in more intense activities like a long run.
