“Dear Governors,

I write to inform you that, after ten years as a Headteacher at Pontygwaith I will be leaving at the end of this academic year.

The day has finally arrived. I didn’t think it would be so soon, but as of July 1st, 2022, I will be officially retiring. I’m sure this comes as a surprise to you as I have been quite content with my current employment situation. However, health isn’t what it once was, and I feel like it would be best if I took this opportunity to take my leave and retire.

Throughout my 20 year career, I have been very fortunate to work with some wonderful people, some brilliant teachers and some highly talented children and none more so than here at Pontygwaith. It has been a privilege to lead such an amazing school and I will miss working with such a great group of staff and children.

I have always enjoyed coming to work and there is not a day goes past when I do not get to see the talents, skills and enthusiasm of our children in some way or another. It is watching young people grow and develop, achieving their potential, realising their ambitions, becoming responsible young adults and citizens that drives every teacher and it has been a great pleasure to contribute to making this happen for so many Pontygwaith children.

Since my arrival in 2016 we have been on an exciting journey at Pontygwaith; a journey that has seen the school go from strength to strength. Staff and children have bought into our TEAM ethos and thanks to the continued support from our fantastic Governing Body and dedicated parents we are now in the top 25% of schools, in Wales. This is a fantastic achievement!

The governors are determined to ensure that we have a period of stability as we plot our way through any potential changes during these unprecedented times and I am delighted to inform you that Miss Chaffe, the Deputy Headteacher, has been appointed to lead the school for the Autumn Term. Mrs Martin will step up as the interim Deputy Headteacher and Mrs Donovan will step up as a member of the senior management team. Miss Chaffe is an experienced Deputy Head and has a long association with the school. She will be ably supported by a very strong leadership team and we can be confident that the school will have a successful future under their guidance.

Finally, I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work, parents for their continued support and the Governing Body for giving me the opportunity to lead this amazing school. I’ve always said that the children here are a major strength of the school and that’s testament to the fantastic attitude of the parents.

I look forward to hearing about how the children have progressed in the future.

Kind regards,

Mark Davies (Headteacher)”

I would like to inform you that I will be retiring effective July 1, 2022. I have truly enjoyed working for XYZ School, and I sincerely appreciate the support provided to me during my 10 years as part of the centre. The stimulation of our positive corporate culture and the opportunities for promotion and professional advancement I was given made waking up and coming to work each day a pleasure.

While I look forward to enjoying my retirement, I will miss being part of our team and the xyz school. I trust that the friendships I have developed here will last well into the future. If I can be of any assistance before my departure or afterward, then please let me know. I’d be happy to provide whatever assistance I can to provide a smooth transition to my successor.

Sincerely,

Frank Jones”
