Who is a Diamoric? (+3 Key Insights)

In this blog post, we will explain who is a Diamoric person, who cannot use this term to describe themselves and what it means to have a non-binary gender. We also talk about the importance of the pronouns and what to do if you made a mistake in addressing someone.

Who is a Diamoric?

A diamoric is a non-binary person who prioritizes non-binary people and relationships with these people. The term can also be used to describe a person who has a relationship with at least one non-binary person.

Diamoric can be considered a gender identity by itself, but it can also be used as a prefix for other non-binary identities that want to specify that they are diamoric. For example, a person can be dia-bi; dia-gay or dia-lesbian.

A Diamoric relationship is one that is not heterosexual or homosexual since one of the parts is not binary. Thus, heterosexual/homosexual people cannot use the term diamoric to describe their orientation, but they can use it to describe their relationship with a non-binary person.

For example, Marya is a non-binary lesbian. She can identify herself as Lesbian, Non-binary, Diamoric or with the three labels at the same time!

What does it mean to be non-binary?

Non-binary people can identify themselves as a man and a woman at the same time, or as someone who is completely outside of these categories.

For example, certain non-binary people identify as transgender, while others do not. This may sound confusing, but in reality, it is very simple: a non-binary trans person is someone who does not identify with the sex assigned to them at birth (trans) and who also has a gender identity that cannot be categorized as exclusively male or female (non-binary).

Non-binary, in essence, is the term used for those who do not identify with the gender to which they were assigned at birth. For this reason, many non-binary people consider themselves part of the trans or LGBT community.

Someone who is not binary does not see himself as a man or a woman specifically. This is a very broad way of saying that these people do not see themselves in the way society said they should be.

A non-binary person may also struggle with sexual orientation and may even consider it transgender so that their body reflects what is most closely identified with sex.

As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, being non-binary can come with its challenges. Many people do not understand exactly what it is and some even refuse to acknowledge that it exists.

For these reasons, non-binaries can change your whole life. Once you realize exactly what it means, you will be faced with challenges that other people will never think of.

Truth is, in the beginning, people don’t believe in it. This changes your life for many different reasons. For one, people who don’t believe you when you say you’re not a man or a woman will only make it hard for you and make you feel bad.

They usually raise their eyebrows in confusion and give their day as if you were just excusing the nonsense of not identifying either sex. This will make you feel upset and you will avoid telling people – which suffocates your need to be understood.

People will think you just want attention. This is one of the most annoying things about society today. They believe that anyone who claims not to be binary is just looking for attention because it is a hot topic in today’s world of controversy.

Some people think it’s just a phase. This is another thing that will stop you to the end. People will more or less ignore you when you try to tell them that they are non-binary because they will think that it is just something you are going through now and not a serious problem.

Some may have the courage to tell you that it is just a phase and you will get out of it. Those people don’t have to be in your life. Therefore, you may end up cutting some people in your life who choose not to recognize who you are.

You will feel misunderstood. This is the biggest challenge. If all your life you have managed to reach people and talk to them about everything and be understood and then come out as non-binary, suddenly no one understands you.

Being non-binary can be very difficult because for the rest of your life you have been dropped into a certain category and you can’t even choose any of the categories as one “because it’s not what you feel”.

This can make you feel like you don’t belong, and that’s a little life-changing because when you don’t feel like you’re included in life, you feel alone and left out. It can make you withdrawn and less likely to engage with other people.

However, being non-binary is not something that someone chooses, but rather it is at a deeper level. It can change your life in many ways!

 Genderqueer vs non-binary

Genderqueer and non-binary identities can and often overlap with each other. And, there is a certain amount of debate about what the difference between the two is.

Non-binary tends to be used as more of a catchall for people who do not identify with the binary categories of male and female. Genderqueer often describes a special experience under this umbrella, which may include the feeling that a person’s sex is fluid.

But for a long time, the genderqueer identity was open to all those which did not “define” the term gender. This means that anyone who does things that are outside the norm of their gender identity is real or perceived.

Many of us do things that are not considered “normal” for people of our gender identity, so under this second framework, genderqueer could be a much larger umbrella than non-binary.

Because genderqueer embodies weirdness, and because weird identity has specific political roots, there may be some bent policy to identify as genderqueer as someone who is nonbinary may or may not share.

The importance of pronouns

One of the most important parts of non-binary identity is the identification of each person with a pronoun that does not fall into the masculine and feminine gender binary.

Although in English, for example, this is easier due to the existence of neutral pronouns like they, in other languages (with a Latin base) things get complicated since all words have masculine and feminine gender, and there is resistance in any attempt to eliminate androcentrism from the language, in which the plural always refers to the masculine.

Dr Kirby Conrod is a linguist who works for the University of Washington and focuses on pronouns. “As a linguist, I would say that language is going to change whether or not you participate in that change,” he explains.

The singular use of non-binary “they” is already very much immersed in that continuous change of language, and it is you who decides if it is a part of the language you want to access – but in turn, you cannot decide for any other person or complain when other speakers around you go on without you. ”

So, if the change is inevitable and it is important to get the pronouns right, how can we do better when it comes to their use? “Practice,” says Kirby, “and be polite and kind when they correct you.”

“If you use the wrong pronouns with someone, it is very similar to using the wrong name – it is not illegal, but they certainly have a right to feel hurt. Making sensitive and proactive choices regarding pronouns is a good way to show someone that you value them as a person. ”

So incorporating this language into our vocabulary is an opportunity to do a personal exploration of the assumptions we make about people and their gender. In the end, it is also about respect and validating gender identities other than ours: diversity and tolerance is one of the most beautiful parts of any society and doing our part to make someone feel more comfortable with themselves. and with its identity, it costs little and is worth a lot.
