Riot Game

Los Angeles, CA

Dear Rioters:

When I did the research over my summer internships, I found out that the internship position of game design is recruiting on the Riot game website, my intuition tells me “This is it, do not miss this chance.” As an experienced game player with diverse background, working in a passionate and professional gaming company is always my dream I would like to go after.

There are several traits that differentiate me from other candidates. My critical thinking, analyze skills and gaming experience could definitely contribute to Riot. With my exceptional game knowledge and experience, as well as my unique skills (link to my sample of the League of Legends essay: https://www.scribd.com/doc/300877174/League-Writing-Sample), I could definitely contribute to Riot culture and community.

My critical thinking is developed during my game playing and academic experience. When I play games, I would always think about the defections and the design of the game. Whenever a new champion comes out in League of Legends, my friend and I will solo in lanes and discuss the skill design of that champion as well as how to master it. As a programmer, the critical thinking is always with me when I write my code, programs need to be critiqued in every way to discover bugs. On another hand, analyze skill comes with my interest business related internships and my economic major, I deal with statistics all the time. My experiences and academic background constantly help me build sense of numbers and the eager for those facts behind the numbers, which also influences my game playing behaviors. I unconsciously calculate damage whenever I play league of legends. I could do plays with my analysis and I am willing to try it all the time. Most importantly, I have been playing games for 15 years. As an expertise in gaming, I find my passion in League of Legends. Besides of normal game play, I have been following professional league matches like LPL, LCS and LCK, watch and analyze the players’ performances since Season three. Knowing every aspect of the games have always helped me throughout my game play.

Riot game is always my dream company to work in. As for me, nothing is better than contributing to my favorite game with my abilities. Since I started to play League of Legends in Season three, I have witnessed Riot’s growth. The growth of player community and e-sports have pushed League of Legends to a height that it has never reached before. To me, taking play serious, player-centered atmosphere and team-focused are the most impressive “Riot manifesto.” Start from a small company, Riot has built connections among players, inspiring new ideas, help e-sports players realize their dreams with League of Legend. That is also what I would like to learn as a gamer. I would love to participate in such enthusiasm.

Given the critical thinking, analysis skills and experiences of gaming that I have discussed, I believe that I would be an excellent candidate for this internship position. I look forward to learn more about Riot! Thank you guys for the time and consideration.

Sincerely,”

“POSITION: Biz Dev Management Rotation

I am writing to apply for XXXX. Having graduated in my BA degree with first class honours, I am currently studying the XXX at the XXXX. My education background brought me a Trinity Force, and, my multilingual skills including fluent English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien have stacked the Mejai’s Soulstealer so I am ready to do tons of contribution at Riot Games. (Phreak does damages but I do contributions!)

I was born and bred in Yordle Land (Hong Kong*), and I am the first member of my family to receive university education. Five years ago, I started my adventure, “Hut.2.3.4…” to Shadow Isles (United Kingdom*). My university education turned out to be a life-changing experience: not only have I met friends and academics that have, both intellectually and personally, greatly inspired me, I have enjoyed the opportunity to face any challenges such as time management, group projects and society affairs. Since my penultimate year, I worked at XXX as a Marketing Assistant, I improved my multi-tasking skills so I could manage my time efficiently on studying, working, gaming and social activities. In fact, my strong adaptability allowed me to produce quality outputs in a fast-pace environment. For example, my dissertation project was rejected three times but I needed to submit 3 assignments and 1 dissertation within 2 months; through the hard-work and strategies they were finished before the deadline and all of them received the first-class result.

My passion for gaming has been developed since I was 4-year-old. Back in the memory of my childhood, I learnt to play my first PC game – Command and Conquer. Apart from C&C, I have also owned various gaming consoles and played a wide variety of games. For instances, Pokemon, Battlefield, Warcraft 3 and League of Legends. I love playing games because they are fun and gaming can actually build-up my skills such as management and teamwork. I was the coach and analyst of Leicester Uni Tigers (NUEL) in 2015; I managed my team to win by making data researches, ban-and-pick strategies and tactics through effective team communication, cohesion and trust. As a result we ranked within top 20 and we were happy with the result. Through LoL I met a lot of friends, improved my teamwork skills and helped me to relax.

Riot Games appeals to me as a top-tier firm in the gaming industry; this is exemplified by the amount of active daily players, scale of tournaments and number of awards. Recently I have been to SSE Arena to see the AHQ vs SKT matches, I was amazed by the atmosphere and power of gaming; I want to become one of the contributor. Therefore, I believe my enthusiastic in gaming, personality, marketing experiences and strong education background would make me a strong candidate as I am capable to improve the local player experience and works well with the team.

I treat the opportunity to be interviewed as the crucial step for me to embark on my career at Riot Games. I hope Thresh could throw me his valuable lantern and I look forward to click it.”

Riot Games

Santa Monica,CA

Dear Mr./Mrs.

I am a first year MA student of Johns Hopkins University. My major is Communication concentration in public and media relations. After browsing your company’s website, I’m impressed by the passion of the company and your eagerness to embrace every one who think differently. I believe my background of communication and international culture can help me to join you. Therefore, I am writing my cover letter to request for an interview for the summer 2015 internships with the communication team.

I am sorry that I don’t have a summoner name in the U.S. Server. But I have one in China. I started to play League of Legends since Oct. 2011. I still remember i begin to play under the influence of my roommates. I watched him playing the game for one month and then I began to play. My first champion is Katarina. I just was godlike the first game I play with AI since I learned a lot through watching my roommate playing the game. It is three years that I played League of Legends. I watched S2, S3 and S4 world championship each year. When I was in China, I have to stay up late to watch the games due to the time difference. Unfortunately, when I came to America this year, I still have to wake up at 4 a.m. To watch the quarterfinals and semifinals.

As a student whose major is communication, the most thing I feel touched by Riot is the videos that Riot launched. The series of Road to Worlds, the mv of Jinx, League of Legends Cinematic: A Twist of Fate, Season 3 final animation, Season 4 Warriors and so on all leave deep impression on me. I think Riot should focusing more on using video as a way to disseminate, not simply words and pictures. Because videos can contain more information than words or pictures. Furthermore, people from all over the world can easily get the information no matter what language they speak.

During the 4 years study in China and one year in America, I developed communication skills, PR knowledge and my own experience in China that would apply to the communication team internship. I can create a flexible and modular collection of presentation materials and templates across PowerPoint, Keynote, and Prezi to create high-quality, visually-impact talks. I also can act as a reporter, sourcing and sharing stories across our web presences and social media channels. Furthermore, as an international student, I can assess and identify communications pain points and develop recommendations for solutions which will make Riot better at communicating across teams, time zones, and languages.

I have known your company for several years since I was in China. And it is a honor for me to have the opportunity to work with you and try my best to contribute to the success of Riot. I also attach my resume. If you need any further information or additional documents, please feel free to contact me at XXX-XXX-XXXX or XXXXX@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Ruisi Lyu”

“Dear Riot Games,

League of Legends manages to combine the best of fantasy, science fiction, and imagination in an awesome, eclectic world. It has always been my dream since elementary school to contribute to such strong game universes like League of Legends as a game artist. My current educational quest, professional experience, and work as a 3D artist on multiple game development projects are ideal for your qualifications as an Art Intern at Riot Games.

Honing and crafting the best player experiences possible with other like-minded teammates has been something I’ve been striving for ever since I entered USC to make video games as a game artist. Our Student Advisor said Freshmen internships were unlikely, but she didn’t say “impossible.” Working with Blizzard Entertainment’s Platform Services on Diablo III my freshman summer gave me boots-on the-ground experience on what it took to polish a quality game. With Reverge Labs, I got to learn what it meant to be part of a small, tightly-woven, agile team. With incredibly talented teammates, we poured into a game prototype while I tangoed with both 2D and 3D art. Working in this range of professional game development environments has taught me much about what it takes to be a team player both large and small situations, while learning from extremely talented mentors.

Making effective game art didn’t stop with the summers, fortunately. Working as a game artist on multiple Final Games here at USC has been ludicrously fun and challenging, from directing the visual aesthetic of the spaceship MOBA Core Overload, to working on an IGF Student Showcase Honorable Mention, Tales from the Minus Lab, as a Level Artist. And I’ve been blessed enough to work with fellow awesome students, from hungry engineers to really adaptive designers, spending many hours after class polishing and building our “student games” to greater heights. These intimate moments just making awesome moments of play are something I’d love to continue during the upcoming summer, and after a short tour through Riot Games’ offices in February, I know for sure Riot Games is a culture I’d love to contribute with.

My combined experiences are ideal for an opportunity to work with Riot Games as an Art Intern, enriching the fabulously awesome League of Legends universe while learning from an incredible team of artists. I would love the opportunity to discuss the position at your earliest convenience. Thank you in advance for considering my application.

Sincerely,

Brian Choi”
