Citalopram reviews for depression ( text)

A platform, known as the Citalopram forum is full of reviews on the drug by the people who have used it or are using it.

Below we will provide a selection of Citalopram reviews.

The Citalopram reviews are given a rating out of 10. Not all of the citalopram reviews have a rating.

Some of the CItalopram reviews below will also state what condition they were prescribed Citalopram for but others may not.

The first batch of 10 citalopram reviews for depression & anxiety

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “Really have to give it time! I was stuck in a constant state of anxiety and this plus the combination of klonopin has really given my life back. I strongly encourage help if you need it, anxiety is very real and very scary but there is help available! I am unique that I take 30mg daily but it seems like the right dose for me. To really see effects of this medication you must find the correct dose and give anywhere from 4-8 weeks for full effects. There is hope for anyone out there.”

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “I used Celexa and it was rough. I then went and looked at all the side effects and realized that THE ANXIETY IT WAS TREATING WAS ALSO A SIDE EFFECT. I then in a last ditch effort went to a chiropractor and he changed my life. He explained HOW CHIROPRACTIC HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH NECK AND BACK PAIN. He explained that stress is necessary to live and is a good thing! Our issue with stress is that our body isn’t adapting properly to the stress. Chiropractors help our nervous system flow properly so we don’t need drugs by removing subluxations. (A subluxation is an interference in the brain body connection) If there is something you could do so you wouldn’t have to deal with stress, would you? See a subluxation based chiropractor!”

“I was put on 10mg to begin with, and I did suffer mild side effects. I had nausea and drowsiness for the first two days and these stopped when I starting taking the pill at night. However when I took it at night I had insomnia, tight chest and felt my heart pounding a lot. I was worried at first but this passed after another couple days. By day 5 I felt like my old self, no side effects and when in stressful situation, no symptoms of anxiety which was great. I went up to 20mg on day 9 and still felt great, with no side effects when upping the dose. Hope this helps those of you about to start Citalopram. Just stick with it, ride the first wave and you will be fine 🙂 x”

“I would recommend Citolopram to anyone struggling with anxiety and depression. After a recent low patch I was in a terrible state… Non stop crying and waking up with a feeling of doom and panic every day. My body was so full of adrenaline and tension it was awful, impossible to live with. When you start taking Citalopram there are some nasty side effects for the first 2-3 weeks… Difficulty sleeping, feeling a bit sick and very tense. But I have to stress that this does stop after a few weeks… And then you start feeling better. Sooooo much better. It is amazing how positive you will feel. I have more get up and go and feel my sparkle coming back. I’m going to the gym regularly, weeks ago I struggled to walk out the door. Stick with it!”

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “I have tried Zoloft, Effexor, Prozac and Wellbutrin. (Effexor is awful btw– don’t EVER get on it. And Wellbutrin is like taking Adderall.) Celexa is wonderful. I had symptoms of body dysmorphia. It was really controlling me every day. I wasn’t depressed, and haven’t been for over ten years, but I have always had the anxiety… BAD. Anyway, i had every symptom of body dysmorphia and it was getting worse every day, for a few years. And the constant anxiety including social anxiety ( I wouldn’t go to the mall or the grocery store on the weekends bc of crowds) and all of it affected my every day life. Celexa helped calm EVERYTHING. I no longer have the body dysmorphia symptoms, and the social anxiety, paranoia, obsessive thoughts have subsided”

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “I started Celexa in college after suffering for more than a year of horrible anxiety. I couldn’t sleep, was skipping classes, and totally on edge all of the time. I finally broke down and took the first appointment I could at the clinic on campus. I filled out a bunch of forms and they came back telling me they were putting me on an antidepressant, which I hated the idea of, but hated the idea of feeling like that any longer. The first 2 weeks were horrible. Terrible migraines and increased anxiety, which they gave me xanax for. I stayed on the medication for 3 years with no bad side effects and only a couple dosage raises. I quit because I felt better and honestly wanted to drop the weight again. It really gave me my life back.”

For Depression: “Celexa has been the best decision I have made. I am 25 years old and suffer from Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety, and ADHD. I was previously on Lexapro and Abilify, but they stopped working for me so my psychiatrist recommended Celexa. This medication helps me relax, and has lifted me from the dark hole I have lived in for years. It gives me a burst of energy, motivation and life, and has even allowed me to lower my dose of Adderall XR significantly without any withdrawals. I had previously tried to lower my ADHD meds, but the withdrawals were so bad and I was so depressed that I always ended up back on my high dose, feeling guilty and fearful. The only side effect I have experienced on and off is insomnia, however it is slowly improving as I approach my 3rd month on it.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “Hi I’ve been on 10mg of citalopram for just over 3 weeks now, I feel a little bit better but still having bad anxiety most days and feeling a bit down, I don’t know if I should up my dose yet, because of my age 72 the maximum dose I can take is 20mg. I did go through the usual side effects but not too bad as my doctor told me to take them at night. I have lost a bit of weight which is quite worrying as I have lost enough already through anxiety. It would be great to hear from anyone going through the same thing and does it get better? I try to get out most days but on the days I don’t go out my anxiety and low mood is worse .”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I’ve suffered from GAD and panic disorder since my teens and was recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. BPD causes worsening anxiety in stressful situations and I’ve tried many antidepressants, including Celexa. At first, it seemed helpful but slowly lost effect and I noticed that my appetite increased. I ended up gaining 20 lbs which is not good for my musculoskeletal conditions. I worked with my psychiatrist to lower my dose and get on Seroquel which has been working wonders for my anxiety and has made me an all-around better person to be around because I am not so grumpy. I lowered the Celexa to 10mg and fully intend to get off it completely next week.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I took this medication around 8 years ago when going through a difficult time and I had no side effects and it was amazing. Unfortunately I had to start taking them again as was suffering from stress, anxiety and depression as a result of my job. I started on 20mg and the first 2 weeks were hell as my head was fuzzy, I wasn’t sleeping and my anxiety increased. The doctor recommended that I persevere and I’m now into week 4 and all side effects have gone. I’m feeling human again and able to deal with work and the stress of life and actually laughing. So 2 different experiences but would always recommend”

For Depression: “I began taking this medicine about six months ago after experiencing severe depression/anxiety for two years. After about six weeks, my mood improved substantially and has been on the upswing ever since. After not working for two years, I now have a job at a mental health facility and have begun to enjoy many basic daily things I had previously lost. I feel like myself again.”

For Depression: “I was put onto Citalopram 10mg after I was diagnosed with depression. I had probably been battling it for 9 months, I got to a point where I just didn’t want to live. The first 2 weeks I noticed some difference, wasn’t crying for no reason at the end of the day, I felt my mood was a little more stable. First week, maybe 2, I experienced mild lethargy for about 3 hours after taking it, yawning, and I felt a little sort of delayed in my reactions. It took 12 weeks on 10mg to feel like myself again. I was always a happy, confident person, that knowledge that my brain was ‘out’ and my beautiful wife and little son just kept me going. No other side effects, no sexual or weight side effects at 10mg. It’s saved my life and I’m enjoying every moment with my son, just like I thought I would, but my brain just needed help to reset. I think if you can manage on the lowest dose possible, do it.”

The second batch of 10 Citalopram reviews

Citalopram reviews for depression For Anxiety and Stress: “Today is 2 weeks of being on Celexas (Citalopram). I started taking it for anxiety and panic attacks. The first 8 days I was tired, nauseated, a little out of it and withdrawn. On day 9 I woke up and hit a major sad wall. I was shaky, panicky, and too nervous to get out of bed. The next 5 days were bad. I was super sad and had no drive or motivation, like someone turned the volume down on my life. Today is the first day since I started that I’m starting to feel better. I am not noticing the effects yet but I’m not in pain or super sad. I’m still pretty yawny and sleepy though.”

“This is awful! It caused Psoriasis and severe Panic attacks. If you are feeling stressed and anxious… this gave me SEVERE Psoriasis which caused me to be misdiagnosed by TWO doctors. This medication will also turn you into a defunct sexless zombie. This isn’t a life saver at all. And if you choose to one day come off this medication… it will take MONTHS to get rid of the withdrawals. It doesn’t matter if you quit cold turkey or taper down. You will throw up, you will become severely nauseated, diarrhea like you wouldn’t believe, hot flashes, & brain zaps from Hell. Be careful with any medication especially one that alters your brain!”

“I started taking Celexa 20mg (generic citalopram, its a lot cheaper) The first week of August this year. I was diagnosed with Major Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I take it once a day at night (with food to diminish any possible gastrointestinal side effects). I am feeling 100% better than I did just a few months ago. I could not be more satisfied with the outcome. Before, I could not sleep or focus on anything. I was nauseas and exhausted all of the time and I even felt so dizzy I couldnt drive or go to class. I am now falling asleep without the help of sleep-aids. I have energy again; I no longer sleep 8 hours and wake up feeling more exhausted than I did the night before. FOR ME this was the correct medication. NO MEDICATION IS CORRECT FOR EVERYONE. There are several negative reviews from individuals; take them with a grain of salt. Yes, the first week can be miserable on a new anti-depressant (you have serotonin receptors all over your body, including your brain, blood vessels and stomach. While your body is adjusting to the new levels of serotonin, you will probably feel nauseas and have a headache). You have to be patient though! After a week I could feel a difference, and after a month I felt great. I feel like my old self again. The only downside I can find with the drug is that I cannot drink AT ALL on this drug. As with most SSRIs, alcohol renders the medication ineffective because Alcohol occupies the same receptors in your body. Massive panic attacks came for an entire week after drinking moderately. I would happily give up alcohol for the rest of my life to NEVER feel the depression and anxiety ever again though. There are also sexual side effects, but for me they have been positive. I can now maintain an erection and have a healthy sex life. I also have no problem with having sexual pleasure. Do not rule out any drug because of the reviews on here. Eventually, you WILL find the right drug for you :). HANG IN THERE!!”

Citalopram reviews for depression For Anxiety and Stress: “You should wait at least 45 days to see any improvement. You will feel worse before feeling better. But definitely it’s worth it. Citalopram is a life saving medicine that lots of people like me can never live without it at all because of serotonin imbalance.”

“  I am 46yrs old, a wife, a mother of 3 and a grandmother of 4. Before taking celexa I was very depressed and angry. I started out at 10mg and am now at 40mg. I have been taking medication for 3 months now. I feel like a new person. I couldn’t listen to music, watch t.v or cope with my children and grandchildren leaving after wonderful visit. I had outbursts of anger and vengence consumed me. I am 90% back to normal. I have had no sexual side effects in fact I am better in that area. I feel normal now. I have told several friends about my miracle drug and I thank God and my doctor for this. Hold strong and all will be ok.“

“  I took this medication for about 3 months to treat my anxiety and depression. The first two months I had a lot of nausea always about 1 hour after taking celexa, however, it worked amazing to relieve my anxiety and depression. For the first time in years, I was able to relax and was happy. After the second month though, I just began to feel numb. I didn’t care about anything. Things that used to upset me no longer did, but things that used to make me smile didn’t affect me either. But my depression prior was severe, so I stayed on it and focused on learning about myself and how unreasonable it is to feel unnecessary anxiety leading to depression. And things were better. The reason I stopped taking celexa is because it caused SEVERE MEMORY LOSS. It started small. I couldn’t remember what happened yesterday. Then, after month two, I couldn’t remember conversations people would tell me I had with them. And at the end of month three, I was standing in front of a desk somewhere (I don’t even remember where I was) with a woman in front of me asking me what my name was. I stared blankly at her. I couldn’t remember. I apologized and had to pull out my wallet and look at my drivers license to remember my middle name. I then began researching the drug and discovered that memory loss is a common side affect. I immediately stopped taking it, but it still took me about 3 months for my memory to return to normal. But on a positive note, it feels back to normal now (about 1 year later) I apologized to my friends and let them know what I was going through, and surprisingly, one of my friends who I’ve known to have memory problems told me that he was taking the same medication. He ended up cutting his dose in half afterwards and noticed an improvement in memory. I still recommend it as a relief from the pit of anxiety and depression, so you can understand how life should feel, but I would never recommend it long term. Use the time on it to learn how to live. “

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “This medication absolutely changed my life for the better.. Stress has always been something that has effected me all of my life, but one day it got the best of me and my anxiety attacks/stress led to depression. Being from a fortunate family, I had never gone through many hardships, so when I had a big struggle in my life I had no idea how to cope. I would sleep hours and strangely for the first time in my life, I did not want to interact with anyone and didn’t want to even be active (I grew up playing all sports). Thankfully, I went to my family doctor and got the help I needed. After only 2 weeks on the medication, my overall mood and demeanor has improved dramatically and my anxiety/stress level is immensely lowered. :)”

“My wife has been on Celexa since 2004 and it helped with her depression till about 2008. She was started on 20 mgs then 40,then 50, then 60 and he wanted to take her to 80! About 1 1/2 years ago I notice a change in her behavior. My wife of 47 years was getting more distant and showed little or no affection. Our relations are 0 now and we had always had a very affectionate and warm relationship, and that was gone. The day it came to a head I put my arms around her in the kitchen one morning to give her a hug and she stood there like she was a robot with no feeling. It hit me so hard for the rest of that day I though I would die of a broken heart. This is when I started to to use Web MD to look into the meds that she was taking and found our what was going on because of the Celexa. I talked to her Psychiatrist and he told me in so may words it wasn’t any of my business and my wife was his patient. “What the heck about our marriage”? I trusted these doctors and I feel they have made a bigger mess of my wife then when she started her treatment for depression. I am glad after we had talked the doctor has changed her to Lexapro with Wellbutrin and the fog seems to be lifting, but she has a long way to go to get back to her normal self. I feel that before our spouses are put on these medications the family members need to be brought in, and helped to understand what they need to do to be the support structure for the depressed member. If the member getting the help loses the love and support of the spouse it will make things much worse for the for the marriage an relationship. I would like to see the family member have several sections together and maybe work through the depression if possible before the SSRI medications are prescribed, I feel that the patient becomes addicted to these medications. I love my wife very much after all of these years and I wish I would have been included with the therapy that she was being prescribed and not pushed on the side.”

“ I was on wellbutrin for 3 years. It worked pretty well but gave me moments of feeling raged or angry. I am a mom of three so I didnt need that. I got off it and did well for a month. Then it slowly came crashing down to where I couldnteven get out of bed. My dr put me on celexa 20 mg. I took half a pill for a week and then the whole pill. I took it at night becuse the first day it made me too sleepy to take in the am. I feel like my body is alive again. It doesnt make me feel like a zombie and I love to laugh again. I am so thankful that this med gave me emergy and my zest for life back. I dont think I will ever get off it! It has been 1 month but I felt a huge difference in a couple days. “

“I started Citalopram in November of 2014 after several short acting antidepressants that didn’t work. I don’t really remember much about the beginning of taking it, but I know that I was doing so well a month later. I even stopped my small addiction to Xanax. It worked really great for me. It suppressed my anxiety to the point where I could function normally in school and in just everyday life. I still had bouts of anxiety but they weren’t a big deal. I couldn’t even be sad at all either! I couldn’t really cry either. It’s really good at suppressing emotions, but overall, it works good. I tapered off of it this summer but it looks like I will need to go back on it. I would recommend it.”

Celexa (citalopram reviews) for Anxiety and Stress: “So I am on day 2 of celexa. I originally started four days ago at night thinking I would be drowsy but instead it kinda kept me up. So I switched to mornings. So yesterday was day 1, in the am. And my day I did feel like I was sad and lonely, chemically buzzed but I could still do things. I had anxiety about being alone with my two boys. But as the day progressed and I reached 5pm, I decided that maybe I should work out. Maybe it would help the side effects. It was the best workout ever!! I didn’t noticed my heart pounding, I didn’t have fast labored breathing and my legs didn’t feel wobbly after being on the treadmill. I woke up non drowsy and took my second pill. So here I am an hour in. I’ll post in a few days since I really can’t find a thread of the beginning days of this medication. I haven’t had a headache or nausea but sometimes I have to force my self to eat. And I do get like waves of brain lightheaded that lasts a second.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “If you’re reading this its because your nervous to start this medication. If you are considering taking this pill, even though your scared, chances are you are in a bad spot and need some help and apparently your doctor agrees. I was like you and the bad reviews scared me enough to make me put off taking it. Until it became so bad I had no choice. I am very sensitive to medications so I started at a very small dose and worked my way up every two weeks or so. Side effects were tough sometimes- but taking clonazepin helped a ton! Now that I am up to 15mg and have levelled out I finally am starting to feel myself again. This medication saved my life and I am so glad I got the courage to take it. Hopefully it works for you too. Give it at least 30 days before you give up. The side effects will go away and if you can’t tolerate them- try something else. People usually only take the time to vent about bad experiences so you can’t go by everything you’re reading- try it for yourself.”

9.0

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: “Overall the 40mg tablet of Citalopram has been very helpful with GAD and related depression. I was originally on the 20mg and around 12 months ago had my dose increased to 40mg. My symptoms have decreased significantly from what I would call fairly strong GAD and my mood improved overall to a very stable level. I found in the first weeks and months adjusting to the medication there were episodes of anger unrelated to anything happening in my life, which can be unsettling but it does pass. There were also times when I had general lethargy, almost like the flu, which only lasted 4-5 days. I would also add there was a strangeness to some of my thoughts. If anyone goes through something like that, don’t worry it will eventually settle down! The Citalopram also helps reduce the impact of certain negative thoughts. I find it easier to lessen their hold on me and as a result a cycle or episode of anxiety doesn’t kick off. Good luck with it all!”

The third batch of 10 Citalopram reviews

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “I am on week three of 10mg celexa. I felt a difference in my mood immediately. My husband too finds I am much calmer. I was a mix bag of anxiety, irritability, anger, sadness, stress, mind racing and exhaustion. I used to snap at every little thing. The mood shifting was not only hard on me but my family as well. I couldn’t live like that any more. Although I was prescribed celexa, I did not rush out to buy it I guess because I was ashamed about having to medicate myself. It took me two months to admit it to myself. I now regret not starting it earlier! It has changed me for the better. I am still the same person with the same life problems but I can better handle my problems now. I can think clearly. The negativity is gone.”

10

“Started citalopram two and a half weeks ago for anxiety and stress. First few days felt a little strange, but the anxiety decreased from the first day of taking it. I’m really impressed how much better I’ve been feeling all around. Stupid little things that use to erk me don’t have an effect on me anymore. I feel more like I’m living in the moment rather than worrying about the future or things that could happen. I was worried about being a zombie or losing my personality, but I actually feel more outgoing and happy because I’m not nervous and tense. I wanted to share my experience because when my Dr. first prescribed it to me, I was to scared to take it. But after reading others reviews I was brave enough to try it and I’m so glad I did!”

For Anxiety and Stress: “A couple months before summer started last year I started experiencing anxiety attacks. I would feel like my throat was closing or my heart would start pounding at an irrational thought. I cried and I cried at the thought of starting not only another medication but an anti-depressant. I waited months until I had an unprovoked anxiety attack in my therapists office, then I knew that I had to do something. My doctor started me on half a 10mg pill, the lowest dose. I was so afraid of the side effects starting but I really only had a headache and some dizziness the first couple days. I honestly can’t complain about this pill. I have not had one panic attack since. Maybe it might not work for you and the search for the right pill will continue but maybe it will work. Best of luck to anyone trying to get better for their mental health.”

“  Was diagnosed with depression almost 10 years ago. After trying several medications celesta finally lifted me out of the depths of depression with fewer side effects. felt so much better after being on this med for a while I decided to wean myself off it..bad move as I experienced such a bad relapse of severe depression, I thought I would never feel better again. I went back on this med and finally 6 mos later I am feeling better again. Be careful about going off your meds without doc supervision, it was a lot harder for me to feel better after relapse. One thing for sure celesta is the med for me!“

“  i have only been on celexa for about 3 weeks the first week and a half i was tired, yawned all the time, i sweat bad, nasuse it was bad but now all that has gone away and i love it i don’t yell at my kids and hubbie like i used to they like that also so stick it out for a few weeks and see if the side effects go away you’ll proble like the results i did.“

For Anxiety and Stress: “I was dealing with Anxiety for about a month and went to see my doctor when it started to really take over my day to day life. She prescribed be a very low dosage of 5mg. When starting the medication my anxiety sky rocketed, which on day 3 of the medication turned into panic attacks (had 5 in one day) which made me go to emerg. I thought this medication was not for me. When I called my doctor she told me to bump to 10mg and after 2 weeks get myself to 20mg. I have now been on this medication for over a month and it has been wonderful. If you are reading this, remember that it WILL get better. Please give this medication time. Get as much sleep as you can and talk to someone. Remember that if you feel worse, it is likely due to your body adjusting to the medication, and DO NOT read the negative reviews. I did and it does not help especially in the anxious mindset.”

For Panic Disorder: “It’s daunting when your anxious about taking meds isn’t it… a million thoughts of thinking “what if”. You know I’m right because that was me for many years, scared to take that one tablet a day in fear of what might happen! But I did and I stuck with it and I’ve had the BEST 6 years of my life! So please please try it, if your scared make sure you have company with you as I found this helped me, try meditation- do everything you can to help relax whilst starting your meds. You will be ok, it’s just side effects and they will not last ❤️ Light and love! YOU CAN DO THIS!”

10

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: “So I posted on the 11th November onto 5th day. It’s been a crazy ride. It’s now 6 weeks since I started 10mg for horrific anxiety and panic. I was the worst patient medication in the first two weeks that I was taking it but I’m glad I have stuck this out. First two weeks was heightened anxiety (prepare yourself for it) and sickness. Moods were up and down I felt numb. But now they have all worn off and I have never felt as calm as I do. I had suicidal thoughts and everything before citalopram. It’s an amazing drug for me anyway. I have a 1 year old and I’m a only parent. Things get tough but my agitation has calmed down, I’m more patient and can get on with day to day life again!!”

“Hi, I’m female from UK, age 16. I was on fluoxetine for a while and whilst at first it helped with my moods but after a few months I didn’t really get much out of it, anxiety and depression wise. A few months ago I was switched to citalopram and I can say it has been an absolute lifesaver. I suffer from extreme sensitivity and most stressful situations get me extremely anxious . I’m not having a good time with school ATM but I’m generally feeling like I can cope with it, and that I don’t spiral off into mania and anxiety anymore when something bad happens. I have minimal symptoms of anxiety anymore, with heart fluttering, tummy ache and shaking almost gone when I should feel anxious. My moods have improved greatly and I love this meds.”

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: “Prescribed 20mg a day for moderate anxiety. Took the first at 10pm, just before I went to bed. After I got into bed I lay there….and lay there…and lay there. No sleep came, felt myself becoming increasingly anxious and my ears were ringing. After drifting into a semi sleep, I woke sharply at 3.30am to a bout of diarrhoea, before vomiting at 7am. Endured the most horrendous 24 hours of my life afterwards and took 3 days (obviously I didn’t take another dose) to eat a proper meal again. Please make sure you challenge your Doctor about whether this is right for you. Whilst no doubt if you can manage the side effects it can work, be also wary about the long term effects and the withdrawal symptoms. If it’s just moderate anxiety, CBT is probably better – some Doctors are too easy to prescribe without even explaining the side effects or understanding just how horrible they can be.”

For Depression: “Whew what a ride it’s been! I was having suicidal thoughts to the point to where it was affecting my every day life, I never wanted to act on them tho it was just the idea I guess. My doctor prescribed me to 10MG and after about 6 weeks I didn’t really notice anything so I went back and he put me on 20MG I’m not even 2 weeks in and the difference is like night and day! I can finally say I’m starting to get back to my old self laughing and talking with people at work. I don’t mind getting out of bed in the morning and coming to work. Before my wife would have to make me get up and I would get sick I dreaded it so much. My suggestion is stick with it everybody is different some people it may help them in a week for others it may take 2 months but I would try it for at least 8 weeks before giving up on it. I feel so much better! Negative thoughts come here and there but they are so vague and I just laugh it off now”

For Depression: “This drug literally saved my life.I was barely functioning due to generalised anxiety disorder and depression. I was losing my marriage and my friends and also my job. I was off work due to this and I’ve be ever been off for mental health before but I really was not eating and self harming it was awful. I was not in control. I tried sertraline but personally made me feel so sick so my GP put me on ten mg of citalopram, I gradually moved up and now take 20mg a day. The past six weeks I feel like I’ve got my life back. Yes I have the odd moment I think I’ve had two days where I’ve felt overwhelmed at work after a made a mistake and I had to hide away and cry, but normally I would not come back from that. I urge people to not be scared and to try this obviously everyone is different but if your nervous about taking it I say give it a go, a good six weeks. It really changed my life and I cannot express how bad things were for me before.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I am a sophomore in college. I started taking citalopram as a freshman in high school for anxiety that caused me to become depressed. I had awful anxiety and panic attacks everyday. I was struggling to breathe all the time. I couldn’t eat anything too chewy or else I wouldn’t be able to swallow it. I couldn’t stay home by myself because I was scared it have an attack alone. My depression really took a toll on me. I decided to go to a psychiatrist. He prescribed me 20mg. The way I was when I first saw him to where I am now is so hard to believe (crying during the entire appointment to feeling like myself again). I haven’t had an attack since freshman year of hs. I did have one two years ago but I was expecting it (first time traveling alone). My anxiety does linger, but I feel healed compared to the past. I’m very thankful I was able to find this medication. I remember I did feel side effects: headache and jittery. Those passed, however, in a week or so.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I’ve been on 10 mg for almost 2 weeks. I can tell a difference already! I have to take mine as soon as I get up in the morning to prevent slight insomnia and it gives me a pep during the day it has calmed down my anxiety and panic attacks. I was having particular night mares when sleeping and now I just wake with a calm state so I know absolutely that citalopram has calmed down the panic. I’m happier and more out going. I know that I’ll probably have to get to the standard dose of 20 mg to be the sweet spot but it has worked wonders and so glad I overcome the fearful of starting the medication! No other worked as well as this one!!!”

Celexa (citalopram reviews) for Anxiety and Stress: “I was on Zoloft for about a week then they switched me to celexa. I took celexa for 4 days and they say give it time the medicine will work. The first day I took it I was extremely tired but when it came time to go to bed I could not fall asleep and if I did it was only for an hour or two before waking up in a panic state. The medicine kept me in bed for days and caused everything to hurt. I felt like I was out of my body and was confused which was not normal for me. My heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. It also gave me weird vivid dreams. I thought taking antidepressants would help me but I feel like they just caused more pain and suffering.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I had citalopram prescribed to me over a year ago for anxiety and stress and have left them in the packet since as I was so scared about the side effects etc. After getting to a really low point and reading some more reviews I decided to take the plunge and start them. I started on 10mg every morning for 4 days ( half the pill ) I then went up to 20mg. I have been on these for 2 weeks now and I have had no major side affects. For the first week I couldn’t really eat as I had no appetite but that is slowly coming back. I no longer wake up dreading the day, I wake up feeling positive and my moods have definitely improved. I feel more sociable and able to talk to people better than I would have done before. I am so so grateful that I have finally taken the pills, they have improved my life the last 2 weeks during such a hard time and I am hoping things only get better!”

For Panic Disorder: “It takes about 6 months before you will feel the full effects and for your body to acclimate to this drug…not the 1 week to 1 month they say. I was terrified to start this so I began at 5 mg eventually titrating up to 30 mg before it really worked for me. It made me way worse before it started helping. I’m so glad I stuck with it, it does help tremendously. I had severe panic attacks and fear daily and could not function…out of nowhere when I turned 40. I’m so thankful for this medication, I tried everything natural first but it did not help. Please do not fear it, it’s there to help you. Just know that it takes a long time to really work and a lot of endurance before it does. U are not alone.”

Celexa (citalopram reviews ) for Anxiety and Stress: “I’ve been on 10 mg of Celexa for about 6 months now. I remember automatically feeling “happier” after a few days being on it, (placebo effect MAYBE :)) I started to notice I also wouldn’t dwell on things that upset me, I went through a horrid breakup, I remember not thinking as much about my ex and being able to feel more positive and not ruminate on negative thoughts that would typically trigger my anxiety and moodiness. Everyone has different experiences on SSRIs so it’s hard to find the right one. Only issues with this medication was the complete loss of libido and occasional digestive issues, I also suffer from IBS – so If you have a sensitive stomach, this may give you occasional digestive issues? And lots of yawning lol! Other than that, this SSRI was the best I have ever been on, (Zoloft makes me sick and tired..)”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I have been taking this drug for the last 3 weeks and let me tell you it’s been awful, ever since the first dose I have felt like I’m not myself anymore I have aches and pains everywhere and within 1 hour of taking it I get really bad sweats and pale skin which do eventually subside. The drug in my opinion has to many cons to be useful to everyone just take a look at the medication leaflet in box it’s unraveling a scroll from the medieval times. I firmly believe the cure for my anxiety will be my own mind defeating it. I will however carry on taking the tablets until my mediation review in 4 weeks but I highly doubt the restless leg syndrome I have now got will subside within this time. There has to be and will be a more safer drug developed”

“I need help. I’m 16 years old and I’ve been struggling with depersonalization and derealization. It started after a massive panic attack and during the panic attack my body felt numb my heart was going crazy my vision also went weird and after that nothing’s been the same I fell very detached and like I’m in a dream. I went to my GP and he prescribed me 10mg of citalopram with 50 mg of stresam. It’s now day two and last night I woke up sweating and felt as if I was twitching I also have stomach pain and I feel very anxious and scared that it won’t work and I’m very panicky about taking it after reading the side affects I can’t stop over thinking and I feel I’m on the verge of having another panic attack I’m so nervous and I need advice.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I went from being agoraphobic in 2010 worked myself through that with no medication for two plus years. The anxiety never did leave though. I was unable to do the things I loved anymore without having panic attacks. I started Celexa just under two months ago and I have to say the result most definitely outweighs the few side effects I had in the beginning. I feel like myself again I can now do the things I love to do with no anxiety at all. It feels nice to just be myself again. I would definitely recommend sticking with it for 2 months minimum. It started to work for me within a couple of weeks. Just progressively getting better as the weeks went on.”

“After putting off getting help for a very long time….I am on 40mg a day, started off with 20mg. I also need to take beta blockers to calm my nerves. But overall these tablets are great. Don’t be worried about side affects, everyone is different and you may not get any. I do feel very tired and less energetic, but in reality I was a little like this before the medication from being mentally exhausted. Only thing I find is that if I miss one tablet (from taking 2 a day), I suffer for days. I was also very ill after having a very small amount of alcohol on them (so I just stay tea total now). But they certainly take the edge off and I don’t feel like a zombie on them :)”

“I’m 26 years old and have been suffering from health anxiety. Every time something hurts or I get a gas bubble in my chest I think I’m dying and will have a panic attack for hours. It was putting a strain on my life in everyday possible so I sucked it up and went to the Dr. Also, I have a fear of taking meds so this wasn’t easy. I decided to take my 10mgs at night after reading about drowsiness, yet I do not get drowsy. The morning after my first pill I woke up with what felt like a terrible cold that only lasted till the next day. I was sneezing like mad which is something I never do. I know the Dr. said it would take weeks to work but I’m telling you I feel great. The things that once terrified me now have no power over me.”

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “It works well for anxiety. Difficult to have sexual pleasure, get really sleepy if I drink (esp. Scotch/liquor), but other than that definitely more chill. Sleeping better, chest pain I was having from anxiety has virtually disappeared after 6 weeks on 20mg. Going to keep on it for 6 months then taper & reevaluate. Gained 10lbs and liking carbs more. Seems related to the meds.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I have been in Citalopran for 2 months for my anxiety and stress and can feel the full effects of this medication, the good and the bad. The good part is my anxiety is well under control, I used to stress over the smallest things and now I am able to calmly and objectively analyze every situation rationally. I also feel much calmer and relaxed, but not lethargic; it’s a good feeling. I am also able to focus much better and do not overreact or explode in anger as I did much to often before. Now the bad news (depends how you see this), the delayed sexual release is a major problem for my spouse; it takes forever to get sexual pleasure. I know this is usually a good thing but not when you can go for over an hour with no finish line in site, it is frustrating and many times I just give up. If I have to weigh the pros & cons of this medication I will probably stay on it because it affects my career and family in a positive way.”

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: “Was on Ciatlopram for 9 years and it truly saved my life. I went through years of terrible health anxiety which turned into depression and when I went on it, it was like my life turned around completely. I don’t remembered any side effects other than just needing to be patient for them to really kick in. I went off of them this passed January. Weaning off wasn’t that bad other than brain zaps and a little bit of nausea. I went from 20mg for about 7 years, 10mg for the last 2 and then 5mg for the last month. Then unfortunately life through some traumas at me one right after the next and I decided to go back on them. About 2 weeks in on 10mg and no physical side effects. I do feel the anxiety sort of on a little bit of a roller coaster but I plan to go back up to 20 in a week. I know these work and I’m excited to get back to being stable and living my best life!”

The fifth batch of 10 Citalopram reviews

“I had some personal problems at home that seriously took their toll after about 4 years of “getting on with life” as a full time working mum to a toddler and not looking after my mental health. Once my daughter started school, I FINALLY took the long-overdue step to do something about how I was feeling – exhausted emotionally, constantly tearful, low self esteem, anxious with doom-filled thoughts and a constant sense of failure. I was prescribe Citalopram but held off taking it for 24 hours as I was convinced I was going suffer from all the adverse side effects I’d read about. However, within 4 or 5 hours of taking my first pill I felt notably brighter, more balanced and with a better sense of equilibrium – I truly cant believe it!”

For Anxiety and Stress: “I was originally prescribed Escitalopram and I had a horrible reaction to it, I was hallucinating, burning up, couldn’t sleep, diarrhea, extreme nausea. I was switched to Citalopram 10mg, after what had happened with the Escitalopram I was terrified of even trying another medication. I finally got the courage to take it. My first dose was yesterday and I took it with food to help reduce any possible nausea. It made me drowsy the first few hours and I took a nap. When I woke up I was a little light headed but not bad, I was a little dizzy through out the day. By the afternoon I want to say I was feeling something good from it, as I was more positive and I looked around at my little family and felt at peace a little. It did cause a little insomnia. May try to avoid napping. I took my second dose today with food also and just some slight nausea, more like a heart burn feeling. And clammy hands/feet. It does make you sweat a little more than normal. But so far so good!”

Celexa (citalopram reviews) for Anxiety and Stress: “I took this Celexa for about 15 years ago for depression and stayed on it for about 3 years. At first it made me a little sleepy but that went away after a couple weeks. The only side effect was it made it very difficult to get a sexual release at the end of a tangle. I stopped taking it because I started to feel too chilled out/apathetic. I cut my dosage down to half for about a week and quit. No side effects at all. Now I’m 49 and started taking it again for stress/anxiety. First two days started with 5mg then upped it to 10mg. By about the 6th day I was feeling mild nausea and some dizziness. The 7/8th day was terrible-hot flashes, anxiety, nausea-had to take xanax and zofrin. Then by the 10th day, I felt a change-almost like a light switched. I’m thinking ok, this is working now! I still feel a little nausea but my mood has improved. I’m also feeling the difficulty with getting sexual release. I’m not sure if the side effects are due to my age now or what but I was surprised since I didn’t have them in the past.”

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: “I began feeling dizzy and had heart palpitations etc which led me to multiple doctors that all believe I have anxiety and panic. So they prescribed me Citalopram. It has been terrible ever since I started. Like many of you I was online looking at reviews for hours on end, trying to convince myself that the side effects would go away. I waited and waited and today marks 6 full weeks taking it every night religiously. I wake up every morning and puke at least once, or start gagging. And the worst symptoms are my muscle twitching, headaches, teeth grinding, blurred vision and eye floaters, and lastly I wake up feeling like I’m burning! My hands and feet burn and my heart goes crazy. I’ve been to ER many times since starting this, and I am done. It has put me in such a dark hole”

“Celexa changed my life!! I went from being constantly worried/ anxious to feeling calm and capable all the time! Even my coworkers noticed how much better I handled stress and how relaxed I seemed. At first I did experience side effects such as stomach upset, difficulty achieving sexual pleasure and sleep troubles but all of these ceased over the first month. The only side effect I still have is I am slightly more somnolent during the day, but it is well worth it for the positive effects. I didn’t gain weight either! I wish I had gone on this med years ago.”

“The medication did seize my anxiety and panic attacks, although with that in mind, I would never use it again because of the side effects. I was empty, emotionless, depressed, had no worries about others, had to fake a smile or laugh, I honestly felt so hollow – it’s not fun. I think I spent more time thinking about death when I was on the medicine than off of it. It may be a great drug to start with helping your anxiety but I wouldn’t stay on this for long. It changed me 100% and I am still suffering the changes. Also, if you don’t have OCD now, it could start to develop during the treatment.”

Celexa (citalopram reviews): “I was prescribed 20 mg of Lexapro (I split in half) about a year ago and it did make me feel “Zombie Like” for the first couple days of taken it but i got used to it and it did help my anxiety A LOT. I was taken off it cause i was taken off of it about 4 months into taken it cause my insurance wouldn’t cover it anymore. Its been about 6 months since I’ve taken something and my doctor decided to prescribe me 10 mg of Celexa. I took my first dose last night and I was kinda iffy about taking it and was scared for about 1 hour after taking it then I started feeling unscared and more realistic as I do suffer from Depersonilization too. As of right now being my 2nd day on Celexa I can say the side effects aren’t as bad as Lexapro were.”

Celexa (citalopram reviews) for Depression: “Celexa helped with my PMDD and helped me feel better about life. Euphoria the first two days, then a notice of “stopping to smell the roses”, enjoying songs more, admiring scenery. Side effects; muscle twitches, tore my GI tract up! Finally figured out if you split/crush/bite the pills, they go through way easier! I only take a half of a 5 mg daily. Also hangovers are way tougher on this medication, I may have to reduce my drinking. Thank you celexa for lifting me out of depression and making me feel better about my well-being”

For Anxiety and Stress: “My stress and anxiety were making it hard for me to cope with daily life. I’m an RN student, work part time and am a single mom. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over a decade, and see a counsellor regularly. I decided to try citalopram because it’s an SSRI and listed on many sites as an antidepressant with one of the fewest side effects. My primary doctor agreed that it would be a good idea. The first week of taking it I did have some adverse side effects of slight diarrhea and upset stomach, slight light-headedness. Very manageable symptoms, I knew were to expected upon starting. After a week and a half I noticed that I was sleeping through the night without waking up. After two weeks I noticed in the morning I would wake up and feel ready to get out of bed right away and start the day. After 3 weeks I notice that my attitude is much more relaxed. When I get stressed, I’m able to deal with the situation with less explosiveness and am calmer with everything.”

For Anxiety and Stress: “So far I’ve only taken one 20mg tablet. The side effects are absolutely horrible. Within two hours of taking the medication last night, I had horrible nausea, heart burn like my whole chest was on fire, and violent, uncontrollable tremors. Legs especially were shaking so bad it was as if I was having a seizure, my upper body shaking as well, but not as much. I ended up taking Gravol, (anti nausea medication) and Melatonin in order to fall asleep. I slept fine, woke up 9 hours later alright besides sore muscles, like I’d fallen off a horse or ran a mile. Within an hour after waking up, I became extremely nauseous yet again, but worse. My tremors came back just as violent, and my heart burn returned as well, but worse. I took Gravol again, but haven’t been able to fall asleep due to the pain. I began shivering and yawning profusely, my face feeling hot, and my shoulders feeling freezing cold, feels like I have a fever or flu. 100% going to try get off this drug as soon as possible.”
