What is the Cat in the Hat?

The Cat in the Hat is a children’s book,  published in 1957,  written by Theodor Geisel known as Dr Seuss.

The main character of the book is a cat who wears a white and red striped hat and a bow tie, and who suddenly appears in the house of two children, on a rainy day when their mother leaves them alone at home.

Although it is asked several times to leave by the family fish, the cat refuses and uses funny tricks to entertain the two bored brothers.

One of the funniest moments is when the cat announces that he has lost “moss-covered three handled family grudanza” an object that no one knows what it is but that the little ones together with the troublesome cat using the method “Calculatus Eliminatus”.

Throughout the story, two more very funny but also very restless characters appear, called Thing 1 and Thing 2 who together with the cat manages to make an indescribable mess in the house.

The story ends in a way as unpredictable as it began.

The cat brings a machine with which she cleans the house and when the children’s mother enters the door she tells the little ones that she has just seen a cat wearing a hat and leading the famous moss covered three handled family step, of course to the amazement of the little ones and Fish.
