You can answer the question if you are considered as insecure when you check if the following signs apply to you. You might be that insecure type but who hides this insecurity by overcompensating one’s assets too much such as having a new phone than other people.

Some are honest about their insecurities such as believing they can’t achieve anything since they have never been successful in life.

You act like Mary Poppins Almost All The Time

Some people who have their underlying insecurities can boast a lot to hide these insecurities. Experts have suggested that people manifest their insecurities in different ways with or without them being aware of it.

Neuropsychologist Rhonda Q. Freeman, PhD tells Reader’s Digest that the famous way of hiding insecurity is being a narcissist which is what most people with narcissistic personality disorder do almost all the time where they hide under a false self. However, this doesn’t mean that every narcissist is prone to show off but there are some who hide their insecurities in a quiet way but they are secretly narcissists themselves.

You typically lead with your sexuality

You might be the type of person who would have sex with someone after meeting them and this is not an exhibition of your sex appeal but it is more likely your insecurity towards your sexuality. Some people would brag about their sexuality to the point of hiding their insecurities altogether which can make them comfortable int he short-term and help them feel secured when they have sex with someone.

This method can risk these people’s lives if they keep engaging in risky sexual behaviour where they might accidentally get pregnant or get sexually transmitted diseases. There are safe ways to handle your insecurities and these people would have advantages in knowing these tips from a professional.

You’re constantly a disagreement machine

Someone who is hiding his or her insecurity might appear like he or she knows more than most people. This method may earn them the name of Mr. or Ms. Know-It-All if they keep engaging in this method.

Remi Alli, JD, MS, a legal scholar, who is certified in alternative dispute management states that these people would constantly deny another person’s perspective about certain topics that trigger the insecure person. This method can make other people feel insignificant when they are surrounded by this insecure person.

This insecure person will feel enough comfort that he or she is considered higher than other people around him or her which can hide the insecurity and minimize the addressing of the underlying problem.

You typically become a shrinking violet

A person who is insecure will tend to become small when they are in a situation that feels uncomfortable for him or her. Body language expert Patti Wood, MA states that insecure people tend to show body languages that can exhibit that they are feeling uncomfortable such as closed and stiff legs and closed palms which indicate that they are not ready to share some things in that certain situation.

You’re constantly a people pleaser

You might be the type of person who likes to have other’s interests before their own. Your insecurity can bring you into a life that is only decided by other people where your career and interests are the outcomes of being with other people and they are not your own which can affect you in the long run.

Dr. Freeman states that insecure people tend to be people pleaser since they are anxious about making decisions for themselves due to their insecurities. These people are also more likely to make bad decisions since this can come from friends that are not really a good influence for them.

Insecure people don’t make their lives on their own but they want to blend in with the crowd and not stand out.

You’re an arrogant you-know-what to most people

You try to act like you are the most dominant in the room. Although this is just a cover for you you to hide your growing insecurity that you might have always had since your childhood years.

According to PsychMechanics, your arrogant behaviour that you show to the world is a way for you to not get attacked for your insecurities by covering yourself to protect yourself.

You can’t maintain eye contact with another person

Eye contact is a non-verbal communication where the people in the conversation will learn how to connect with each other in a non-verbal way. People who have insecurities have problems with maintaining eye contact with another person.

This non-verbal behaviour is very useful when reading emotions since the person’s eyes can indicate one’s emotional inclinations toward the conversation which can help further the conversation and without maintaining eye contact, we can’t see this motivation.

You use daily objects as armour

You might be the type of person who hides from windows where someone might see you. You might even be the type of person who hides behind doors to hide from other people.

People who have insecurities tend to hide by using books or hide their palms with the other palm at all times. This must occur at all times when the affected person will be seeing people.

You avoid human contact

Some insecure people may have some unresolved attachment issues that they have during their childhood years. Bill Eddy LCSW, a therapist, mediator, and co-founder of The High Conflict Institute states that people with this insecure attachment style tend to avoid other people and will find ways to minimize social interaction such as watching TV or reading books at home.

You’re a bobblehead doll to most people

This has something to do with insecure people being more agreeable than most people. These people don’t like the idea that they have to disagree with other people since they tend to comply with other people and this trait is quite similar to the people-pleasing trait of these insecure people.
