Your personality is the combination of qualities that form your unique identity. It includes your thoughts, actions, and feelings, which tend to form patterns that define who you are.

Both genetic and environmental factors contribute to the formation of your personality. Your DNA and upbringing have a big impact on what kind of personality you develop. However, this version isn’t permanent as many aspects of your personality can change as you grow older.

Personality development can be deliberate as well. You can choose to construct or deconstruct parts of your personality to evolve into a better version of yourself.

In this video, we’re going to share seven tips that you can try to develop your personality. These techniques might help you shape yourself into the person you always wanted to be. 

Nevertheless, we must warn our viewers that simply knowing the steps isn’t enough. You really have to put in the hard work and possibly consult a therapist or life coach to implement the desired changes. It’s important to be patient with yourself and to celebrate small wins.

Now, here are seven personality development tips.

Number One

Become a good listener.

People who are effective listeners are appreciated for their compassion. It’s a rare quality, so if you’re good at it, you will be remembered. Listening isn’t just about taking in information. A good listener can elicit more information by encouraging the speaker to talk.

Not only does listening improve your social skills, but it also helps you receive feedback. As you’re more attuned to what people are saying, verbally or non-verbally, you pay more attention to how your behaviours impact others.

Number Two

Increase self-awareness.

You cannot work on your personality if you don’t know yourself well enough. Self-awareness involves being aware of different aspects of the self including traits, behaviours, and feelings. 

You’re able to recognise what’s happening inside you, what motivates your actions and reactions. Reflecting on these things shows you what your strengths and weaknesses are so that you can improve them.

Number Three

Sharpen your strengths.

Once you’ve identified what talents, qualities, and skills are your strengths, you can use them to your advantage. If a trait is particularly useful, it makes sense to invest in it for mastery. 

Refining strengths that are present but mediocre lets you optimise your personality. Your strengths exist in your professional life, relationships, and can be used for personal fulfilment. 

Number Four

Work on your weaknesses.

Along with working on your strengths, you can also try and polish up areas that you’re not good at. This might require help as it is unfamiliar territory for you. It’s helpful to check out books, online resources, support groups, and professional services if you’re trying to overcome your weaknesses. Once you’ve figured out the path, it’s just a matter of practice before your personality is upgraded.

Number Five

Heal your emotional wounds.

On your journey to self-awareness, you might uncover unresolved feelings from past painful experiences. It’s very likely that these wounds are the causes behind some of your weaknesses.

Healing isn’t an easy journey and typically requires some kind of therapy. Based on your comfort and belief systems, you can take guidance from a mental health professional, a religious leader, or an alternative healing practitioner.

Number Six

Find your purpose.

It’s a lot easier to develop your personality if you know what your purpose in life is. Many people struggle to identify their life goals and it’s okay if it takes you several years before you’re sure.

But when it’s clear to you what you have to do with the rest of your life, your decisions become more intentional. Additionally, you also figure out what situations and activities hinder your progress. As a result, you can avoid such obstacles.

Number Seven

Build new interests.

Finally, the simplest way to improve your personality is to engage in a wide range of hobbies and interests. Doing so gives you greater opportunities to connect with other people.

At the same time, you learn so many different things that add to your identity. Cultivating varied interests keeps you content and occupied whenever you need a break from work.
